The Environmental Education program was created to educate our community about the toxicity in cleaning and household
products, and their potential harmful affects on one's health. Community members were educated about the danger of
mixing different cleaning supplies during the cleaning process. The Federal Food and Drug Administration has separately
authorized the use of all these cleaning products, however no one has tested them when these products are combined.

When someone is cleaning a window and then the table, potentially different combinations of chemicals are being vaporized
into the air, which may or may not be toxic. Generally people do not think about these things because they trust the FDA and
know that the products they purchased have been tested and not dangerous to their health.

Slavic Community Center recognized this potential health hazard for the community and created an interactive educational
program to address the need educate community members on this issue. The program consisted of an educational article
posted in the popular Russian publication, a radio talk show, where one of the most important individuals within the
community discussed this issue and suggested ways to avoid chemical poisoning, and research of related topics and their
presentation.  Our agency strongly believes that further education on recycling, hazardous waste, and other dangerous
chemical usage is needed for the Russian-speaking community.  The knowledge of proper recycling and chemical usage will
benefits not only our local community members, but the planet as a whole.
